Retooling Your Brain with Visual Thinking (Tools for Creative Thinking)

Image
"The clarification of visual forms and their organization in integrated patterns as well as the attribution of such forms to suitable objects is one of the most effective training grounds of the young mind."  —Rudolph Arnheim I used to think that creativity is a natural talent God given to the lucky few. Thus only creative people will produce creative results. However, throughout my career as a training consultant, I discovered that if we give people the tools of creativity, they will produce similar outcomes. Quite often this can astound them and change their beliefs about their creative thinking abilities. This shows that creative thinking is a skill that can be learned.  In this blog, I will share a very powerful method of thinking outside the box i.e. visual thinking. This method is powerful because it is able to bring out ideas in ways that the conventional method is not able to express. Numerous research has been conducted to prove the benefits of visual thi...

Powerful Questions To Ask Candidates in Job Interviews

In this session I would like to share the idea on how to prepare questions to ask candidates during a job interview. This is actually a very critical step if a recruiter want to have the best chance of separating good candidates from the bad ones. Going in without a thorough preparation only puts you at the mercy of the good answers from candidates. Mind you, good answers does not necessarily equate good candidates. This is among the most common mistakes an inexperienced recruiter usually commit. As a result, the organization has to endure the hiring mistake in terms of low productivity. Step 1. Study the criteria of selection. Step 2. Study the performance standards required for each criteria. Step 3. Prepare questions along the lines of behaviour needed against the standard of performance. As an example if one of the set criterion is leadership, then you could ask questions along these lines: How would you rate your leadership skills on the scale of 1 to 10 ? Can you give ...

Building Super Confidence in Public Speaking

Image
Next to the fear death, the other biggest fear is public speaking ! Imagine that. In other words, people would rather die than stand in public a and speak voluntarily. The funny fact is that no one has ever been reported to die during a public speaking engagement. It is wonder that while speaking is such a natural thing to do for humans, public speaking on the other hand produces a 'life threatening' result in most people. However, for some people, it also seems to come naturally like they are born for the skill. In my work as a training consultant, I have also seen many confident looking individuals who say they have the proverbial elephants in the stomach when they speak in public. In this article I will share some of the tips on how to create the confidence to stand and speak in public. Preparation is the utmost key to developing confidence. Half of the battle is won when we prepare our material and rehearse what and how we are going to present our ideas. People who do...
